Hi, I'm Lindsey Williams,
A graduate of Anderson University with an art degree. I didn't fall in love with painting until my sophomore year of college. One thing that inspires me to keep creating is the human capability of emotions and how we deal with those emotions as a whole. I truly believe there is a lot of beauty in what is considered "ugly" and I strive to capture that feeling in much of my work.
My work is a reflection of myself and many others like me. Throughout my life, I have observed that people gradually become more and more "imperfect" in a sense as they navigate life's hardships. This can manifest through mental health concerns. In my paintings, I take things that are not quite perfect and push the imperfections through abstraction such as simplification, changing color, and graphic lines.
My focus in painting is to let colors and lines speak to tell a story.
The story is suggested by making the flowers black and white, and leaving the rich color of the paint to carry the emotions of the piece.
Mixing the colors, putting them on the canvas, and graphically illustrating the botanicals in reverse reminds me of our imperfections. I enjoy the last part of the painting, watching where the paint drips or "rains" from top to bottom completing the piece.
I spent 5 years at Anderson University, receiving my undergraduate degree in Art. My childhood consisted of many coloring books and paint-by-numbers. I've taken art classes for most of my educational career, which created an outlet for what I wanted to do in the future. .
I primarily work with acrylic paint mixed with a heavy amount of water. I've foudn that acrylic paint is very versatile. After working with several other types of paint I've enjoyed how forgiving acrylic paint can be when manipulated to a certain degree.
